DAS Labs has partnered with UrWay, an AR/AI startup for the outdoor activities industry, on a project for the Outdoor Recreation Capitol of Colorado! Together, we set out to revolutionize the way visitors explore the "Switzerland of America." Nestled in the heart of the San Juan Mountains, Ouray has long been an ideal destination for adventurers and nature enthusiasts. Now, with the release of a new augmented reality travel and tourism app called Visit Ouray, visitors have a cutting-edge, interactive way to learn about the area’s rich history, explore trails, and identify activities offered by local businesses.
Conceptualizing the App
When the city of Ouray first approached us about augmented reality app development, we had a few ideas up our sleeve. In one of the most beautiful places in the country, we wanted to empower visitors to spend as much time as possible taking in the sights. If a tourist needs to look at a search engine to Google their next activity, or navigate to a trail, or even find a local lunch spot, they risk losing out on time they could spend being present in their gorgeous surroundings.
But, what if searching for a shop or restaurant didn’t mean missing out on real life? We set out to turn this idea into a reality.

As an augmented reality development company founded by people with a passion for the outdoors, DAS Labs was thrilled about developing an augmented reality app for adventurers. We used Google APIs to gain access to vast, comprehensive databases of information. Then, we deployed our proprietary Visual Global Positioning System to identify the user’s location with a high degree of accuracy.
